TOPIC:

My topic is on the failure of the League of Nations.

OVERVIEW OF TOPIC:

After the Abyssinian Crisis, the League of Nations began to gradually diminish. The crisis proved the league ineffective to take action against offensive nations. This was proved when the Abyssinian emperor appealed to the league, the league only banned weapon sales and imposed sanctions on rubber and metal. The league did not put any offensive action to stop Mussolini from conquering Abyssinia. With the failure of Abyssinia, Italy left the league as well as a few other countries. The League also tried a new policy called appeasement to restrict nations from any offensive conquests. This new policy failed when Hitler conquered Czechoslovakia. Admitting the failure of the league, in 1943, America, Britain and Russia agreed to set up a new international organization.
